Portumna Town
Portumna is a translation from the Irish
language of ‘Port Omna' Meaning ‘Port' or
‘Landing place of the Oak Tree trunk'. It's one
of East Galway's most attractive towns and
ideally situated by the River Shannon and
Lough Derg. Portumna Forest Park provides
sign-posted trails that guide you through a
marvellous world of common and exotic trees. An 18-hole golf course
meanders on this natural sanctuary. Portumna Castle & Gardens and the
Dominican Friary are worth a visit within the town. The Portumna
Country Market is held every Friday morning indoors at the local hall.
The town has a vibrant Arts, Drama, and Community scene and the
annual Shorelines Arts Festival is held in Autumn. There are an array of
fine restaurants, boutiques, gift stores and beauty spas.
Accommodation is plentiful in the town and surrounding areas.
Cruising, boating, canoeing and water sports are what these fine waters
have to offer and are all accessible close to the Marina.
