Lockes Distillery Museum
Former whiskey distillery now open to the public as a museum. Guided tours tell the story of whiskey making from grinding the barley to casking the final product. Watch as the waterwheel turns the machinery. Guided tours in English, French and German. Self guided tours in ten languages.
Description of tour/itinerary
Established in 1757 Locke’s Distillery is the oldest licensed distillery in the world. The tour of the museum offers a complete step back in time experience. Your guided tour follows the process from the grinding of the grain to the casking of the final product. Peer down the 28ft deep solid oak vats to where the yeast and worts fermented. Watch and listen as the 19 th centurary water wheel drives the machinery. Over 90% of the original machinery is now restored and can be seen working daily. Look at the cooper display his skills as he tightens the hoops on the aged barrels. Stroll through the bonded warehouse; learn about the lives and the working conditions of the people that worked here. Locke’s is located in killbeggan on the main N6 Dublin to Galway road. We are open all year round, seven days a week. April to October 9.00am – 6.00pm . November – March 10.00am – 4.00pm
